Driving home last night from Rooster T. Feathers (where we saw an awesome comedian, Nick Guerra), the first of 2023’s four Supermoons hung low in the sky. Huge. Golden. Magickal. At 9:00pm it was still warm outside. (Did I mention we’re finally seeing some Summer weather? Yay.) A few wisps of mist shrouded the Moon. (Did I mention it was HUGE?) It guided us most of the way down El Camino Real and I should’ve taken a photo right then and there because when I got home, although it was still low in the sky, the view was obscured by trees. - Leathur
================================================================
On July 3rd at 7:39am EDT we have the 7th Full Moon (of 13) of 2023. July’s Full Moon is always most notably called the Buck Moon (for when deer antlers are in full growth mode), Thunder Moon (for the many storms during this part of summer) and Hay Moon (for the harvesting of hay), but it goes by many other names depending on the culture (Salmon Moon, Berry Moon, Hungry Ghost Moon, etc.). This July Full Moon rises at 9:51pm EDT, crosses the meridian at 1:12am EDT (the highest position in the sky, which would be the Midheaven of the chart), sets at 5:33am EDT, and reaches its peak illumination – the exact Full Moon – at 7:39am EDT (adjust to your time zone to know if you’ll be able to view the exact Full Moon or not). This Full Moon also happens to be the 1st of 4 Supermoon Full Moons this year (that all happen in a row) and it is also out-of-bounds at its maximum declination and nearing its fastest speed as it orbits the Earth. This pedal-to-the-metal and out-of-bounds Super Full Moon is happening at 11°18′ Capricorn.
As a Full Moon, this is the peak of the 29.5-day lunar cycle (on a micro level) that started with the New Moon at 26°42′ Gemini we had on June 18th. This 29.5-day lunar cycle will end, and a new one will begin, with the next New Moon at 24°55′ Cancer on July 17th. On the macro-level, a Full Moon is the real culmination or harvest of whatever was initiated or “planted” at the previous New Moon in the same sign that occurred approximately 6 months earlier. So that means this current Full Moon in Capricorn is the culmination or peak, complete harvest point of the New Moon at 1°32′ Capricorn we had on December 23, 2022 (which was a Supermoon New Moon – the 4th of 5 in a row). This larger cycle will end, and a new one will begin, with the next New Moon at 20°44′ Capricorn on January 11, 2024 (which is another Supermoon New Moon).
This post is broken up into pages to make it easier to read and navigate. On this first page I briefly cover the more technical, astronomical aspects of the Full Moon and lunar cycle/phases, as well as the 5 different types of Full Moons (“regular”, lunar eclipses, supermoons, micromoons, and blue moons) – which all bears weight in how we interpret things. After that I describe the general effects of Full Moons, both mundane and personal, and explains how we can tell (broadly speaking) if it will be the Moon or the Sun that dominates the Full Moon and its expression. On the second page I explain the energies of the sign of Capricorn (both exoteric and esoteric) and the 3 types of Capricorn (Crocodile/Sea-Goat, Mountain Goat, and Unicorn), as well as the general effects of Full Moons in Capricorn. On the third page I dive into the delineation of this particular Full Moon at 11°18′ Capricorn, give my final thoughts on what we can expect, and list the key dates in this lunar cycle for a timeline of how/when things will unfold and notable trigger points. Feel free to read what part(s) you want by clicking the links or page numbers at the bottom…
