HAIR, Billed as "The American Tribal Love Rock Musical" began off Broadway in t967. Before the play opened on Broadway in April of 1968, it had been rewritten and 13 songs were added to the play. The story and lyrics were written by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and Galt MacDermot wrote the music.

Hair made quite a splash and was an object on discussion on Carson's Tonight Show because there was never a musical like it, and because the cast of supposed hippies appeared naked on stage in one of the scenes. The story was based on the dilemma of one of the group facing the draft during the Vietnam War.

Be that as it may, in 1969, music from the show spawned three big hits for three musical groups, The 5th Dimension, Three Dog Night, and The Cowsills (quite a change from their original 1967 hit, The Rain, The Park, And Other Things).

.5th Dimension's Aquarius / Let The Sunshine In is actually a medley of two songs. It reached #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.
