A brief medley of songs by the Carpenters from their 1978 Tonight Show appearance.

John Davidson was the guest host that week. The cat tearing it up on the drums at the very end was Cubby O'Brien, as Davidson was quick to point out. If you go back to as far as the original 1955 Mickey Mouse Club, you might remember that Cubby and Karen were at the very end of the Mouseketeer roll call. Well Cubby was Cubby O'Brien who toured with the Carpenters.

You might also remember that in the Carpenters' early days, Karen both sang and played drums. They wanted to feature her singing, so they brought her out from behind the drums which made her self-conscious. Over concern about not looking heavy on stage led to the eating disorder that killed her.
