That is really the name of the holiday. Not that you would know it if you're under 50 years old. There's been a lot of subtle (and some not so subtle) brainwashing to get away from how this country even came about.

Where I live,there has been a public, COMMUNITY reading of that Declaration of Independence for the last 14 years, done independent of government leadership or sponsorship.

It took me until then last year to wonder about how many other places in the country is that being done.

After three days of searching Google, I came up with 44, that's right ONLY 44 places in these United State where it is a public, community, open reading of the Declaration of Independence, on this national holiday named for it.

Yes, reading the whole thing, as some would say, although at less than 1500 words, it only takes about 12 minutes to read aloud. Reading aloud is more like what was done in 1776. A really different experience than reading it for yourself, but for others to experience 'the whole thing' for themselves.

It is done at a public place. A park. Where there is a military Flag Raising at the local Veterans Memorial Wall. It could be any place in your area.

Publicity for the reading has been minimal. Gets mentioned as a one-liner on the full page listing of Town sponsored activities on July 4.

Take it on yourself to read it aloud, or get it read aloud where you live. Even if its only a few people that hear it the first time, more will come.

Word gets around. Here, now in its 14th year, there are some people who drive for nearly two hours just to be here when its happening.

Gee, what a difference when there is some real connection with WHY we even have a holiday every fourth of July. Really reconnect with our history. Help our children connect with it too as INDEPENDENCE DAY not just as the holiday known only by its date - July 4.

After all, there are over 30,000 communities when counting cities, towns, boroughs, townships, villages, and all the other names describing where we live. Not just 44.
