Yes, from cradle to grave we are encouraged to present a 'proper' image to the world which has little to do with what we are. We have un-pragmatic social and cultural programming shoved down our throats which has nothing to do with how we are from an innate perspective. Actors we are, or else. Some honest opinions expressed at the wrong time can get us incarcerated or killed. (See the archives for reddit's badcopnodonut.com.) You are expected to do this or that depending on what you are, sorted by gender, age, economic class, religion, race, and the list goes on, and a lot of this is garbage that doesn't do the individual any good.
Of course some of us don't follow the more stupid rules unless under threat of situations we can't get out of if we don't, though we can sometimes and do await a later date on where we can 'get even' for those moment; so to speak. (For me, that is often walking away. After all, I can be a very useful ally on many of an occasion. Not that I intend to, but a few people in the now and in the past would be or would have been toast without mine presence, unless they could find or could have found aide from other sources.)
