“Intuition is the tingle of recognition through your scalp. Precognition is realizing this is a defining moment. Synchronicity is knowing that both moments matter.”
-Carmel Bell, author and medical intuitive
Human experience is steeped in phenomena that defies logic. Time, space, randomness, separateness, and matter are all constituents of a physical universe – a brick and mortar reality that is built out of a linear framework.
And yet there are those occasional head scratching moments we all have. Often described as synchronicity, intuition or precognition - these experiences are unrelenting despite our limited perceptions of what we deem to be “reality.” So what gives?
From the enlightened beings of our mystical traditions to the quantum scientists belonging to a new generation of thinkers, each point to one perennial idea: reality is not separate at all but instead one continuum of consciousness. And moreover, we are just as embedded within that continuum as reality itself. Plainly stated, there is no “outside” as we understand it, nor is there a “here” and “there” – no time exists as we define it. In an ultimate reality there is only one omniscient present. And the good news is that if we can learn to harness that persistent present moment, we just may be able to kick the habit of a brick and mortar reality that has weighted us down for so long.
But before we go about rebuilding a new structure, let’s first understand the dynamics or connections between what we call synchronicity, intuition, and precognition.
Synchronicity is the apparent colliding of reality disguised as disparate occurrences; two separate events or co-incidents that coalesce to create one seamless meaning.
The phenomenon of synchronicity is a most profound expression of this tapestry we call “reality.” Here’s what Carolyn North, author of Synchronicity – The Anatomy of Coincidence had to say about this preternatural process:
“Synchronicities, like falling in love, give us a glimpse – a peephole – into the very fabric of the Universe, its miraculousness and its utter simplicity, its ordered wholeness and the wild shimmying of its ecstatic dance. By learning how to tune in intuitively, to this seeming paradox, we can relax and be receptive to the coincidences that keep taking us by surprise. Like the lovers, we then vibrate in tandem with the Universe.”
Intuition is the choice the Universe offers up, to act on what often appears as a synchronicity; that gentle whisper that says “go left” or “go right.” Although most are not able to logically quantify where that whisper originates, we sense that we’d better follow its lead.
Penney Peirce, author of The intuitive Way, Frequency, and Leap of Perception says, “When we enter the present moment and perceive via the right brain, body, heart, and personal field, intuition opens naturally; it is the core perception that unifies us all as human beings. When intuition is open, we experience everything as contained within the present moment, so [something like] precognition is totally normal because past and future exist within the expanded moment, as different frequencies. There are no limitations due to time and space, which are linear concepts that create separation. Instead there is an understanding that when we think of something, it has the potential to occur instantly, if we don’t hold cluttering beliefs. We also understand that what we need is always given by the collective consciousness, whether we have recognized the need consciously or not. Synchronicity is simply evidence of this truth.”
Here we see a beautiful weaving of perception; a confluence of intuition, precognition and synchronicity, not as separate phenomena but as core to living ones life fully in the present moment. And as we’ve heard many times before, it is in the present moment where true power resides!
Precognition, also sometimes referred to as premonition is the so called advance knowing that this or that will manifest at some point in the “future.” With it, we get a heads up as to what is around the bend.
Esteemed consciousness researcher and author of The Power of Premonitions, Dr. Larry Dossey explains, “A premonition…is literally a forewarning. It is a glimpse of the future, a feeling or sense that something is about to happen. Premonitions are not explainable by inference from prior information or past experience. They come in many flavors. They may warn us of something unpleasant, such as imminent danger or a health crisis, or announce something agreeable, such as what the winning lottery numbers are or where to find a parking spot. Premonitions may be vague, or vivid and dramatic, as in a dream that contains complex characters and plot-lines. They may occur while we are awake or asleep. We may be fully conscious of them, or they may be buried in our unconscious mind so deeply they prompt us to act without knowing why.” (from the introduction of The Power of Premonitions – How Knowing the Future Can Shape Our Lives)
