What is at about dogs that makes them so special, aside from their faithful devotion to us? Are they angels in disguise, as so many of the prophets in the video, below, might suggest?

Long ago, when I was in school, a teacher pointed out that GOD is DOG spelled backwards. Hmmmm.

I have had many dogs in my life, six of which were German Shepherds, my favorite breed. At one time, we had five dogs living in our home, simultaneously, a German Shepherd, a Yellow Labrador Retriever, and three assorted rescues from the shelter. There was a feeling of safety and power when walking in the woods with five dogs out in front and along your flanks.

My last dog, a German Shepherd, died 5 years ago and now I am too old and unable to care for another. Funny, but I would occasionally and spontaneously refer to him as angel, though that wasn't his name. Now I'm content to keep dog calendars around, especially those with photographs of German Shepherds. Here is a special quote from a book by Agnes Sligh Turnbull, taken from one of those calendars:

"Dogs' lives are too short. Their only fault, really."
