As it happens, I choose not to submit my every report to the CGI community. My desire is not to dilute the conversation with repetitive commentary, but instead, to offer the pieces I believe will stimulate intellectual curiosity and meaningful conversation.

Over the last week I have been drilling down on the divisive question: was America founded as a Christian nation?

Pouring through the founding documents and the correspondence of the Founding Fathers, I believe the honest answer to that question will come as a shock to many. And yet, I also believe that it is imperative that we take a good hard look at the original intent of the American experiment, to extract applicable lessons for today.

In tandem with the historic victory of Donald Trump, there has been a marked rise in false, if well-meaning, assumptions flowing from the religious adherents on the political Right. This growing proclamation of a national reconciliation to Christian principles is, I firmly believe, a trap.

There is no greater wedge to divide liberty loving Americans than that of religion. For this reason, we'd be wise, as individuals, as communities, and as a country, to reconsider the assumption in light of historical fact, and the infinite diversity of human experience -- especially religious and spiritual experience.
