Taipei, Jan. 5 (CNA) An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter Scale jolted northeastern Taiwan at 1:53 p.m. Monday, according to the Central Weather Bureau. The earthquake's epicenter was located at sea about 28.1 kilometers east of Yilan County Hall at a depth of 68.1 km, the bureau said. The strongest tremors, which had intensity readings of 3 on Taiwan's 0-7 seismic intensity scale, were felt in Nanao in Yilan County. Heping in eastern Taiwan's Hualien County, Xinyi District in Taipei, as well as New Taipei City and Taoyuan City had intensity levels of 2, the bureau said. An earthquake's intensity gauges the actual strength of shaking generated by the temblor in a particular location. (By Christie Chen)
