I wasn't correcting you or trying to make you feel bad.. I really wanted to know :-)

When my Dad was a policeman (now deceased) I grew up around cops kids and cop families in St Louis, County.. As I matured I saw different traits in them .. A small percentage were low down and dirty with delusions of 'god-like,' psychopathic grandeur. Some used their badges to 'get stuff.' The freebies included women who liked boys in uniform (cop groupies or badge bunnies as they called them) Free food, free merchandise, cheaper loans on this or that etc etc .. Some were power hungry and loved to lord it over people because their self esteem was very low. No one liked those guys, including the other cops. Then you had the good guys who genuinely wanted to help people. These were the ones who drove old ladies home when they saw them walking with bags of groceries.. Knew your names and kids names.. Brought your kid home when he stole bubble gum (while reading him the riot act) instead of wrestling him to the floor, handcuffing him, locking him up with real criminals and scarring him for life..

I knew one cop who was killed on a domestic disturbance call. Officer Greene. I went to school with his kids. He was blown away through the screen door. He didn't even have his gun drawn.. Just walking up to the house. He was a good guy... I knew another who cradled a little boys brains in his hands until help arrived. The boy was playing on a wooden bridge and fell off (at the park.)

The percentage of good and bad was very different 'back in the day, then today...
