There are about 20 listed hotels & motels in Chico, Ca.. Most have up to 100 rooms and others have many more.. Then I looked to see where the Shelters were and these are the ones listed.. This is just Chico.. Other surrounding hotels and motels, Churches, schools, fairgrounds, event halls etc are opening their doors too..
If I lived there and had to evacuate I'd drive further to Sacramento, Reno, Tahoe, Truckee and all of those places that are loaded with places to stay..
I'm not disputing that the media is probably lying about numbers and especially how the fire began but a lot more centers are open then thought..

In Chico at one of four Red Cross shelters, Neighborhood Church was expected to house 200 but has 370 evacuees looking for shelter.
The Red Cross is now redirecting people to other shelters and churches.
We sent them to Gridley shelter and now there is a shelter in Yuba City. There’s a variety of churches we have them going to,” said Mike Wood with the Red Cross.

Salvation Army volunteers bring bagels and burritos to the Thousand Oaks Teen Center, where evacuees are staying during the Woolsey Fire. The Salvation Army says it needs contributions in order to keep helping evacuees.
