If you want to see well done but subtle hypnosis find some little kids watching modern cartoons and watch with them. You can actually see your attention being drawn to the screen and held.

The larger picture is multifaceted and each facet, hypnosis for example, has its own facets. It would be a really great movie if it weren't real :-) .
