What both you and Lynda are saying is so true. My father was in the Danish Resistance. About 20 years ago he said that he knew the Nazis had arrived when Canada Post started measuring and weighing and ... all the packages. I found it a bit odd at the time, but maybe it was another indication of this "calculating" system that excludes a more natural relationship with the environment and each other.
I'd hoped to find a way to have a pair of mini milk/work "cows!" I forget the name of the breed, but I don't see that happening at this point. In the nineties I had a student who would make fresh cheese with raw milk she got from some farmer near Montreal and, for a while, I knew someone near Magog who had a similar connection, but that disappeared within a year or two. Rather than a natural mutually beneficial exchange between people, even for babysitting services, It creates a rather unpleasant stress. I went to a small town Holiday Season sale about 10 years ago and it was nothing but promotion for local shop owners. My other idea was joining a co-op community, somewhat like this story but not. It seems that that possibility is disappearing.
All we can do is our best, while we hope for the best for the good of all concerned.
